FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HARRISBURG (May 21) - PENNDOT has granted a request by the Bicycle Access Council to display a Share-the-Road logo on the reverse side of PENNDOT mailing envelopes, Deputy Secretary Betty Serian announced today.

The use of the logo is to recognize the legitimate use by bicyclists of Pennsylvania roadways, Serian said.

"With another cycling season upon us it is even more important that bicyclists and motorists share the road safely," said Serian. "By adding the Share-the-Road logo to the reverse side of our mailing envelope we hope to make driving and riding safer for everyone." 

Envelopes with the logo were distributed beginning this month.

"It's a simple way to educate motorists and bicyclists," said Joe Stafford, executive director of the Bicycle Access Council. He said PENNDOT has been very cooperative in accommodating the needs of bicyclists in accordance with the Vehicle Code.
